Pros of Online Therapy

I know, I know. Online therapy is not typically what people have in mind when they first consider therapy for mental health. Honestly, if you have no desire to conduct treatment this way, don’t force it. Person to person sessions do a lot of good. Virtual therapy has been around for years and has become even more common following restrictions imposed during COVID. Online treatment is effective. In fact, online therapy for women may be even more effective than in-person (more info here). Here are a handful of pros of online therapy.

Time efficient: Log on, wait for your session to begin, spend 50 minutes in session, log off. It is nice to eliminate the need to drive, park, and navigate a physical location.

Less stigma: People often carry some nervousness about potentially seeing someone they know at or on their way to a therapy office. Connecting virtually from a location of your choosing diminishes that social risk.

Less intimidating: The idea of meeting someone new face-to-face to discuss intimate points is very intimidating for some. Meeting from your own space in an online setting can create enough comfortability to pursue the support you need.

Potentially more privacy: Emotions are valid and nothing to be embarrassed about. That includes the red, puffy eyes and runny noses that sometimes manifest during session. Still, some clients feel self-conscious about exiting session in front of anyone else. Being able to log off and be in your own space after session can eliminate that vulnerability.
